Sex Worker Pride: Our Purpose in Porn

Sex worker & mother: 'Yes, I AM empowered by my job.'
I cannot stand the uninformed and ignorant rant that sex work is not empowering or a real ‘choice’. I am going to put it in a very simple way:  I love sex. I f*cking LOVE it. I have loved it before I even knew what it was or that there was such a thing as the patriarchy. All I knew was that something down there felt really good.

This blog post by Eva Schless articulates the sentiment of many of us who work in the adult industry. (Thanks to @SinnamonLove for sharing it). It reminded me of the blog post from Airen Star about "How the General Population Views Women in the Sex Industry" and this article from XBiz that was posted the same week.

Female porn stars are psychologically happy and healthy according to a recent report published by the Journal of Sex Research.

I have had many clients just like Eva's. Ones who were shy because of their size, disabled, disfigured, taking care of an ill parent, recently divorced out in the desert serving our country (and he's divorced because his wife cheated on him and got pregnant while he was on deployment AND it turns out the first kid wasn't his either. Gotta support the Troops :).

As much as people think they know about the adult industry and people who work in it, we know we serve a purpose and fulfill a need for our clients and, yes, for ourselves too. We also know we are dynamic, intelligent and capable women. We are still mothers, sisters, aunties, teachers, artists, psychologists, spiritualists, atheists...and everything in between. Just like everybody else. There are broken people in all professions, and nobody is discounting the experience of sex work victims all over the world, who are being abused in the name of porn. That is our wound to heal and make right and we will. You don't have to like our choice of vocation, but please respect our hustle. ♥
